This "Mom" Stuff

The stuff a Mom does… Well, the stuff THIS Mom does.

Long time no see

It’s been two years. TWO YEARS since I’ve posted. How did that happen? Maddy will be 3 in a month, and I’ve been so bogged down with school that, like many blogs, my blog went on the back burner. There has been so much going on!

Let’s start with B. Like I said, she’s almost 3 now. She’s potty trained (hallelujah!) and she’s beginning to sleep at night with no pull-up! She’s getting big and now she’s carrying conversations and annoying the hell out of people answering questions. She’s grown up so much in the past couple years. There are things she says that crack me up lately. We’ve been good parents and taught her “Don’t tase me, Bro!”, “Bye, Felicia”, “Deuces” (while holding up two fingers), and many more that’ll probably get me in trouble. She’s a good girl. There are times I’d like her to just be quiet and go to sleep, but alas, nap time seems to be getting the boot…. except at day care, which is no fair.

There’s so much I want to say, but I have Mom brain and can’t remember all the stuff I want to tell y’all. I will be better about updating more. I need to make that promise to myself.

Washing boobies

You’ve recently gotten into wiping your face off with baby wipes. Today you decided you were going to wipe your face. And your legs. And your changing pad. And then you wiped my boobs. I asked you if you were washing mommy’s boobies and you nodded yes and proceeded to wipe my cleavage off again. You’re so thoughtful. And you know what boobies are and where they are.

Silence is golden

Especially when it means your toddler is sleeping. I should take a shower, but I’m procrastinating. Mostly because I know when I get out, she’ll be up and ready to play. Also because I know that it means I have to start my day. I don’t wanna!

On the plus side, my order from Old Navy shipped. Woot! It’ll be here before school starts back up. On the other plus side, I get to meet a friend on Friday. At a MALL. Let me reiterate: AN ADULT FEMALE. This is huge. I’m so stoked. And I can’t find a thing to wear; like it’s a date or something.

Okay, enough procrastinating.

Fishes and Camping and Boo Boos, Oh My!

Well, we just got back from vacation. I almost wish I had taken pictures of the ridiculous amount of packing we had to do, but I didn’t, so I’ll get over it. Since I haven’t posted in a long time, I’ll update you: Tiny B is now a toddler, she’s 14 months old, she walks, talks, and throws temper tantrums. Over our 10 day vacation, she cut 6 teeth, bringing her total to 12 (ish?).

So how did camping go? Well, pretty well! We left here at 5:45 pm and arrived in camp setting up at 5:30 am. Within minutes, Maddy had found a rock (!!) and was going to show us….While we were setting up our tent….on uneven, unfamiliar ground. BOOM! went the Beebs 😦 Turns out she had an asphalt rock, and had landed on it….And by landed on it, I mean she got road rash above her eye. 😦Image

She was bummed about it, but actually did pretty well. She screamed for a bit (to be expected), but she got over it fairly quick. Some Mommy cuddles and kisses helped it to feel better, and (as seen in the picture), she pretty much forgot about it after that! Neosporin and lots of love helped and it’s pretty much healed completely!

After the boo boo, we started to actually camp. It was 10 days and 9 nights in the Eastern Sierras. We camped at Buckeye campground in Bridgeport, CA. Our weather was beautiful, and the fishing was pretty decent. Maddy has since become an absolute PRO at walking because she had so much practice on the uneven terrain.

I looked on Pinterest for ideas for packing, but I decided to pretty much take what I take everywhere, so there’s no real need for a list. I was pretty stoked that I only forgot baby lotion; and stuff for me, but that’s fine, I’m over it. I think I was pretty good when it came to NOT overpacking, too. I think I packed her like…..I dunno, 7 or 8 outfits and she wore almost all of them (we do laundry in the middle of the week).  Beebs did pretty well when it came to night time, too. She only came to bed with us twice, with an attempted third (she got put back in her pack n play because she was doing karate and we couldn’t sleep).

The week went by really fast. We fished, talked, walked, learned, colored…EVERYTHING. But it’s times like these that I know I’ll miss when she gets bigger. I was really sick with possible food poisioning, so I’m thankful my SIL and Matt took Miss B for a full day to let me sleep. And sleep I did. I think I slept about 20 hours. I’m pretty sure I had a fever because I kept waking up sweaty. Thankfully, though, that full day of sleep got me right back where I needed to be. {Let me say that I had been sick since Tuesday, we left Thursday night, and I slept all day on Wednesday. I was super sick. I had thought I was over it, but since I hadn’t had a full day to recover, it (whatever “it” was) lasted over a week. It was *horrible*. }

Maddy learned a lot of things. Before we left, she knew: what a doggie/kitty/cow says, how to say “bubble”, “ball” (a super favorite), “book”, “dog-dog”, and “shhhh” (which is shoe while pointing at a foot or shoe). Upon coming home, she now knows what a lion says, and she says “fishy”, “uh oh”, “this”, she can show me where her nose and her teeth are, and she can point to what we’re asking about {i.e. keys, car, etc}. She also “drives” now; she sits at the steering wheel and says “vrrrrmmmmm”. When did my little baby become such a smart toddler?! And this week, since we were in the woods, she decided that it was okay to start stealing people’s water cups and drinking from them. So now we have a 14 month old who drinks from cups and water bottles.

By the way..14 months?! HOW the heck did THAT happen?! And WHEN?!

So we fished….Maddy wanted to pet the fish, so we let her. It was awesome. There was pure innocence in her eyes. As well as fish goop and amazement. I love these times.

I seem to have hit writer’s block, so I’ll leave it at that. Other than the one boo boo, no other mishaps were had!

When I get Creative Liberties….THIS is what happens. :)

So, I recently became the nursery coordinator at church. With the job came creative liberty. Do you KNOW how stoked I was to get that?! Decorating is one of my THINGS! I love it. So, I took the nursery as it was, and I changed a couple things. Here are some before pictures (please disregard the toys on the floor; Maddyson was having fun).

What did I do, then? I mean, it looks pretty sweet, right? Well, for starters, I put a coat of paint on the walls (and by me, I mean my awesome helper, Billy). I then decided to paint the sink cabinets and the cubby thing where the toys and diaper bags go.

Well, after that was done, I decided the walls needed some sprucing. Which means, of course, that I put posters up. That was the last step. And HERE is what THAT looks like!

I’m done! I need to touch the cubby thing up a little, but for now, I think it looks pretty dang good!! I got some of my inspiration from – where else?- Pinterest. I have more ideas for expanding different things, but for now, I think this is great, and I feel like this is inviting for parents and kids alike! If you’re ever in my area, stop on in on a Sunday and have the kids worship with us!

Happy Easter, everyone!

Pinterest Noms!!!

So, the other night, I decided to try a Pinterest recipe. I was pretty stoked, but I was suuuuper nervous because I’d never made lasagna before. It ended up being super

delicious. As you can see, I had my amazing husband helping me. I got the recipe from here. It’s a pretty easy recipe, too.

What might be in this delicious lasagna, you ask? Well, there’s the whole recipe!

2 cups shredded cooked chicken breasts
1 can (14 oz.) artichoke hearts, drained, chopped
1 pkg. (8 oz.) KRAFT Shredded Mozzarella Cheese with a TOUCH OF PHILADELPHIA, divided

1/2 cup KRAFT Grated Parmesan Cheese

1/2 cup chopped drained oil-packed sun-dried tomatoes

2 pkg. (8 oz. each) PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese, softened
1 cup milk
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1/4 cup tightly packed fresh basil, chopped, divided
12 lasagna noodles, cooked
HEAT oven to 350°F.
COMBINE chicken, artichokes, 1 cup mozzarella, Parmesan and tomatoes. Beat cream cheese, milk and garlic powder with mixer until well blended; stir in 2 Tbsp. basil. Mix half with the chicken mixture.
SPREAD half the remaining cream cheese mixture onto bottom of 13×9-inch baking dish; cover with 3 noodles and 1/3 of the chicken mixture. Repeat layers of noodles and chicken mixture twice. Top with remaining noodles, cream cheese mixture and mozzarella; cover.
BAKE 25 min. or until heated through. Sprinkle with remaining basil. Let stand 5 min. before cutting to serve.

ImageThis lasagna was amazing. It just… it was amazing. We had seconds, and we wanted thirds. I went back for some the next day, but someone had eaten the rest.

So where was Miss Beebs during this time? She was being super cute in her chair, eating her Goldfish. She got a tooth. So she now noms Goldfish. And she looooooooooooveeess them. So she chilled while her daddy and I made our noms!

Oh yeah, and we used stewed tomatoes, and it turned out fine. So if you can’t get sun-ripened, it’s cool. =)

If you’re in the mood for a new food, and if you like lasagna, try this recipe out. And if you DO, let me know what you think!!

Valentine’s for the broke.

So it’s Valentine’s Day. Some call it Singles Awareness Day. I call it Thursday. Tomorrow the chocolate will be 50% off, and that’s when I’m planning to celebrate.

first draftWell, I’m the one who gets cheesy and loves to do things. So I decided to make Matt a bouquet. Not of flowers, though. No, that’s not “guy” enough. So I bought him some things like M&Ms, pistachio nuts, beef jerkey, gum, and 5 hour energy. Since Matt doesn’t drink beer, a beer mug would be silly, so I bought him a soda from Circle K. I stuck all the stuff on to straws for said soda, and I placed them in the cup. I got a foam ball to help with placement. That all cost maybe…. $15? Because he doesn’t drink, it’s a little cheaper.

So that’s all I did for him, right? NOPE! No, Creative Me came out, and I decided to make him some coupons that he could redeem at any time during the year.

I made him a “Get out of poop FREE” coupon, which means he can pass a poopy diaper to me and I can’t get mad, a “FREE ‘get ready for bed'”, which is for putting Lil Miss Butt into her pjs, and a “YOU pick the movie!” which gets him his choice of a Redbox or Netflix movie that I have to watch (or at least be in the room during).

As much as I love doing these things, I love receiving them, too. But, unfortunately, I married a man who has no romance in his bones, nor does he really have creativity. So as much as I’d love to get something, even homemade coupons, I know I probably won’t, and that’s okay. I really just want to spend this Thursday with my husband and show him that I love him.

So, I spent a total of like, $15 on Matt’s gift, plus some paper and ink from the printer. I’m gonna make him a card, too. When you’re broke, you gotta be able to be creative so you can do something for the one you love. Even if it’s just to make a card. It lets them know “Hey, we’re broke, I get it. But I made you this awesomely horrible, 4th grade-looking card.”

Happy Valentine’s Day, readers. Hope you have a great, love-filled day!!

The country countdown

So, I was thinking of something I could give to Miss Beebs when she had a baby. I know this is a waaaaayyyyy long time away, but I have been thinking of it. So, since I’m writing her letters already, I decided I’m going to make her a playlist of all the videos and songs that were big when we brought her home. Since I had to pump, I put her back to sleep, and then stayed up, pumped, fed her, put her down, pumped, etc. All while watching CMT. The videos were great. So what songs were on? Well….

Eric Church’s “Springsteen” was rising pretty quick. Luke Bryan’s “Drunk on You” was a HIT. “Pontoon” was gaining some huge momentum. Kip Moore had a hit with “Somethin ‘Bout a Truck”, and Kenny Chesney was swooning all the chicks with “Come Over”. Jake Owen hit it right with “The One that Got Away”, and Lee Brice… Man, “Hard to Love”, it hit home. Of course there were more, but man, those ones kind of stood out.

500px-Eric_Church_-_Springsteenspringsteeneric-church_springsteen drunk on you drunk on you girl Lukekenny-chesney-come-over-still kennychesneycomeovervideo1 tumblr_m6t1m3TiBd1r2yjvqo1_500Little Big Town Pontoon Little-Big-Town-Pontoon-music-video-300x225  sbat

These weren’t just…Songs. They ended up being like friends because I spent so much time watching these videos. I have to say that there were times where I wanted to just curl up in a ball and cry because of the lack of sleep. But I was able to get lost in the videos and songs. They started to hit home; maybe not the way the artist thought they would, but they began to take on meaning. And they drowned out Matt’s snoring, which is always a good thing!

So, I’m making her a CD. Which will probably be coverted to mp3, and then converted again to whatever format. But I think I might build on it. I think I’ll add the songs that meant something while she was growing up. Darius Rucker’s “It Won’t be Like This For Long” is definitely one that’ll go on.

It’s just something that will show her what I was thinking and feeling while I was raising her. I think she could maybe use it when she decides it’s time for her to have kids (again, WAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYY in the future).

Are there any things that you’ve done or want to do for your kids that they can use/have when they have kids of their own?

A holiday rant

Have you ever had those days where you just…. need to quadruple double your meds? I swear, thee are days where I feel like if I don’t up my meds, I might go psycho on someone. Eek! I know I’ve not posted in a while, but it’s been a wild beginning-of-the-holiday-season already. Thanksgiving was at my house this year, and I was planing to not cook at all and just be at a restaurant with my side of the family. But noooooooooooo, I had to cook. Bah Humbug.

Here’s where I get to be a total Scrooge… I like the Christmas season. When I was little, I could tell people “Merry Christmas” without them getting their panties in a wad. Now, however, it’s scary to go Christmas caroling because you don’t want to offend someone. So, when Maddyson gets old enough, I’m not even sure if we could go see Santa! He’s totally not PC. So why aren’t there other people in the malls? Is there someone we could put in there for Hanukkah, or Kwanza, or….Lie, a guy for the atheists? Like, they go up to him and say “hey, it’s a day” and he flips them off or something? I don’t know; I’m beginning to ramble.

So, I want to know. Are YOU PC, or are you old school? Do you pick up Christmas/Hanukkah presents, or do you get a holiday present? Why do Christmas trees offend people, but menorahs don’t? Why are they calling them holiday trees? I’m a little peeved. I’m all for the different religions celebrating their own ways! If someone tells me “Happy Hanukkah”, I tell them “Merry Christmas”, or even “Shalom!” I mean, it doesn’t offend me! So why are people so offended?!?! Can someone please enlighten me?

Mom time vs. Dad time

There are just those nights… The one where the baby is crying for the bajillionth time and you just don’t want to get out of bed. The night that you went to bed at 1:30 in the morning and the baby decides to be up at 1:50, 3:34, and 6:10….

Well, apparently, Dark time is Mom time. I’m all for getting up at night because Matt works. My issue, however, is when Matt is awake at 6:10 am, and I still get up with Maddyson. I understand that he was helping me wash bottles. But the fact is that he was up, the bottles could wait, and I didn’t want to get up. Also, apparently 6:10 am is still Dark time. I vote that this needs to change.

I’m going to bed now. I’m tired, and it’s 11:30. If I go to bed now, I might get a nap in before lil Miss get’s up for some noms. My rant is over.

What say you? Is Dark time Mom time in your house? How do you and your spouse do nighttime feeds?
